17 August 2011: arctic explorers

If you have been in my presence at any time in the last month, there is probably no way I haven’t already regaled to you every last detail of my Nordic Dreamvacation at least once. I can’t just forego converting it to blobbovision, though, so here goes. Træna! Træna, I learned, is actually a municipality of thousands of tiny islands off the coast of Norway, including Sanna, which forms the dramatic silhouette you see above. Lying just below the arctic circle, Træna sees sun 24 hours a day in midsummer, and each July is host to a music festival on the islands Husøy and Sanna which lets people like me, who are not year-round Arctic fisherpeople, experience all the adjectives depicted above firsthand. /// continue reading

17 November 2010: animal farm

One pleasant Sunday a few weeks ago a big bunch of my friends and I escaped our urban surroundings in favor of my parents’ llama farm. /// continue reading

18 September 2010: enjoy a palindrome

Did you know that the longest single-word palindrome is saippuakuppinippukauppias, a Finnish compound that means “soap cup seller?” I don’t know what a soap cup is, or if people actually sell them, but there is a word for it in Finland just in case. While the Finns – and Dutch, too – have the most impressive single-worders, I found (not wrote – I wish!) a bunch of amusing English palindrome phrases to embellish those pictures I mentioned my last post on the ol’ blob. Sometimes they’re nonsense like the above, but sometimes they fit the photo sort of perfectly. /// continue reading

18 August 2010: flickr presents

Above, photos from two trips to Governors Island – my favorite place! – made a few days apart in July.

After some vacation days and some technology mishaps that made me worry my little trooper of a Nikon Coolscan IV might be succumbing to age (thankfully she appears to be fine!), I have finally accomplished that photo-sharing feat I promised in my inaugural blob post. My third summer in The Big City has been excellent so far and it’s been fun to sort through the photo-evidence. And with my OCD-esque organizational tendencies, rest assured I’ve dated, tagged and geotagged the shit out of each one lest any detail be forgotten! Have fun browsing and if you find you are in a photo or two, thank you for modeling.

Flickr set here! Hope you’re enjoying your summer, too!

4 August 2010: look out world

I have made myself a blob! Here I plan to share anything from basic site updates to works-in-progress, photograms, observations, inspirations, even a Swedish lesson or two. My hope is that it will help me feel a little more connected creatively to the world around me and provide some nice things for your brains and eyeballs. Thanks for reading!

Now that this thing is off the ground, I can finally get back to scanning my growing backlog of summer photos. Here’s a little peek at what I’m hoping to get up on my flickr page in the next few days.
