There are many times in my life that I believe I am lazy, so it is a great relief to hear an outside party describe me (even indirectly) as “not lazy.” Thank you L Magazine Blob for your kind writeup of the Bushwick Review! Click here to read it.
If you are unfamiliar with the Bushwick Review, it is a very nice collection of various imaginative and pleasing things – envisioned, collected, photocopied and stapled together by my pal Kristen. You can read more about it on the Bushwick Review’s blob, and read my submission on this very website (here).
I am itchin’ to get started on my submission for T.B.R. II! Gotta interview my mom about a turkey.
The other day I awoke to discover an amusing pair of unread emails in my inbox. One was my daily Swedish Exercise, which isn’t unusual. But, to my happy surprise (trevlig överraskning!) sitting just below it was an email from Jens Lekman, one of my most favorite musicians, written in reply to an encouraging message I had sent through his website a few weeks earlier in attempted Swedish. In it he adopted the role of teacher and corrected my mistakes in red. To my relief, the errors were few and minor. Best email ever!
Anyway, all that Swedish in my life all at once filled me with motivation to put together a Swedish lesson on my blob. I grabbed a notepad as I left to wash clothes before Popcorn’s party, and in it I drew pictures of edible things, knowing that these are always fun words to learn. Below is the resulting little glance at this nice language. Who knows what random tiny facet of Swedish I’ll decide you need to learn next. For now, please enjoy looking at the letters and imagining what sounds they make before I get to my How To Pronounce The Letters With The Funny Dots lesson.

Yesterday we celebrated Popcorn’s sweet sixteen. Popcorn is my golden retriever roommate. Since Popcorn is a dog, 16 is maybe even more sweet than for a human – like to figure out dog years we are far past my threshold for multiplication-table memorization (7 x 16 = 112, it turns out!). Popcorn is a living legend and had a very nice party. He shimmied and strutted about wearing an orange flowered lei that complemented his strawberry coat – the first time in his 16 years that he’d worn anything beyond a collar, according to his master.
Above (+ larger here) is my wildly successful exercise in sculptural celebratory typography.

Above, photos from two trips to Governors Island – my favorite place! – made a few days apart in July.
After some vacation days and some technology mishaps that made me worry my little trooper of a Nikon Coolscan IV might be succumbing to age (thankfully she appears to be fine!), I have finally accomplished that photo-sharing feat I promised in my inaugural blob post. My third summer in The Big City has been excellent so far and it’s been fun to sort through the photo-evidence. And with my OCD-esque organizational tendencies, rest assured I’ve dated, tagged and geotagged the shit out of each one lest any detail be forgotten! Have fun browsing and if you find you are in a photo or two, thank you for modeling.
Flickr set here! Hope you’re enjoying your summer, too!
